The interior of the Tesla Cybercab was revealed in leaked photos circulating on Reddit. The images, picked up by The Verge, show the Tesla robotaxi during charging, with a steering wheel and a touchscreen that reveals the so-called “Rodeo controls”.

What the photos show

A Reddit user claims that a Tesla employee left the Cybercab open while charging. The screen shows buttons labeled “Short oops”, “Long oops”, “Win” and “Voice notes”, which correspond to the internal “Project Rodeo” system reported by Business Insider.

According to that investigation, safety drivers of the autonomous driving system deliberately took longer than normal to take manual control, so the system could learn from its own mistakes.

Why it matters

The Cybercab is Tesla’s bet on autonomous transportation without a steering wheel or pedals, although this leaked unit does show a steering wheel, likely from a test version. The revelation fuels the debate over how much human oversight “Full Self-Driving” still needs.

The key figure

“Project Rodeo”. Tesla’s internal program in which safety drivers logged the autonomous system’s mistakes, now visible in the leaked photos.
