The National Symphony Orchestra opens its 2026 Season at 85 years old

The National Symphony Orchestra (OSN) opens its 2026 Symphony Season on Wednesday, August 12, at the Carlos Piantini Hall of the National Theater, in its 85th anniversary year, with a program opening with Dvořák’s Symphony No. 7 and closing with Shostakovich’s Fifth.

An anniversary season

The OSN turns 85 years old since its creation by musician Enrique Casal Chapí last August 5. The opening concert, conducted by maestro José Antonio Molina, is the starting point of a commemorative season spanning two centuries of symphonic repertoire.

The opening program

Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 7, written between December 1884 and March 1885 at the request of London’s Royal Philharmonic Society and premiered by the composer himself on April 22, 1885, is considered by specialists to be the pinnacle of the Czech composer’s symphonic output. Closing the concert, Dmitri Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony, the work with which the author sought to reconcile with the Soviet regime after the rejection of his opera “Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk.”

The concert is at 8:30 pm at the Carlos Piantini Hall of the National Theater Eduardo Brito. Tickets, through Uepa Tickets, range from RD$610 to RD$2,290 depending on seating. The season includes several concerts throughout the year, with the Fundación Sinfonía and the Ministry of Culture supporting the celebration.
