Caribbean Queens to receive RD$5.7 million for gold at Santo Domingo 2026

The Dominican women’s volleyball team, the Caribbean Queens, will receive RD$5.7 million as recognition for its gold medal at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, the highest combination of incentives of the event.

The incentive

The recognition adds RD$3.2 million for the gold medal, guaranteed by the Ministry of Sports, plus RD$2.5 million for the 10 individual awards won by the players during the tournament. Each individual distinction will be rewarded with RD$250,000, close to the value of a gold medal, according to Cristóbal Marte, president of the Women’s National Teams project (Senafe).

The most awarded team

The Dominican squad dominated the individual awards by taking 10 of the 12 recognitions. Yonkaira Peña was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) and best outside hitter; Brenda Castillo received three distinctions —best libero, best defender and best receiver— worth RD$750,000, and Gaila González was recognized for best serve, among others.

Why it matters

The figure makes the Caribbean Queens the most decorated team of Santo Domingo 2026 and rewards a squad that extended its streak to seven consecutive regional titles. Marte invited other business sectors to back Dominican sports and said he is willing to pursue an Olympic medal if he receives support for four years.
