The second edition of the Juan Pablo Duarte Games in New York will bring together 1,827 diaspora athletes between August 14 and 23, competing in 22 sports, in an event celebrating the country’s bond with its community abroad.

The protagonists

Athletes from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania will compete in sports like baseball, basketball, soccer and athletics, plus traditional games such as vitilla and dominos, a Dominican hallmark within the event.

Where it takes place

Competitions will be concentrated mainly at the George Washington Educational Campus in Manhattan. This edition is dedicated to national sports figures such as José Joaquín Puello Herrera and sprinter Felicia Candelario.

Why it matters

The Juan Pablo Duarte Games are much more than a competition: they are a tool for diaspora integration, a space for Dominicans born in the US to connect with their culture and sports, and a platform to spot talent that could represent the country.
