The United States led deportations of Dominicans in 2025: 3,986 nationals were repatriated from US territory, an increase of 9% over the previous year. In total, local authorities received 4,887 deported Dominicans from 58 countries, according to data recorded by the General Directorate of Migration (DGM).

Where they came from

Most of the repatriated came from the Americas: 4,780 Dominicans, while Europe sent 104, Asia one and Oceania two. The United States leads the list by a wide margin, followed by Puerto Rico and European countries such as Spain, which by December 17 had accumulated 46 repatriated, and Germany, with 11.

The diaspora as context

The figures make sense when looking at Index records: Spain is the European country with the largest Dominican population, with 201,162 residents, and Germany ranks sixth, with 6,580. Italy, with 29,791 Dominicans, was the only European country that increased its deportations, going from four to seven cases in twelve months. France and the Netherlands recorded seven each, while the United Kingdom sent the fewest, with three.

A phenomenon that does not stop

The trend continues in 2026: a single charter flight from the United States repatriated 72 Dominicans, most with convictions for drug trafficking, robberies and arms trafficking, bringing the number of deportees so far this year to more than 400 under ICE coordination.

The key figure

81% of all Dominicans deported in 2025 came from the United States (3,986 of 4,887). The combination of stricter migration policies and repatriation agreements between both governments turns deportation into a structural phenomenon for the diaspora, with direct impact on families and communities on both sides of the Atlantic.
