The war touched the red line of humanitarian aid again. A World Health Organization (WHO) warehouse with medical supplies in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro was attacked and destroyed this Friday, denounced the agency’s director general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

The evacuation that saved lives

The attack caused no casualties, even though the site had been visited shortly before by WHO staff and drivers. The team managed to evacuate 130 of the approximately 300 pallets of humanitarian medical supplies destined for frontline health centers, and left the area before the attack.

The WHO call

Tedros insisted that attacks on health care in Ukraine must cease, otherwise “the population is deprived of life-saving assistance.” His message was forceful: “Even wars have rules, and one of them is that health must be protected.”

The key figure

130 evacuated pallets. The supplies saved minutes before an attack destroyed the humanitarian warehouse in Dnipro.
