The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, confirmed the arrest of a person accused of throwing a plastic object from the stands of the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium toward the track, right in the final seconds in which Marileidy Paulino was on her way to winning the 400-meter gold with a time of 48.94 seconds.
A condemned gesture
The throw, which could have endangered the Olympic champion’s integrity, was immediately repudiated by the public and authorities. The authorities applied a firm regime of consequences to discourage this type of behavior at sports venues.
