Dominican athletics lived one of its most vibrant nights at the Olympic Stadium. The mixed quartet of Erick Sánchez, Anabel Medina, Christopher Melenciano and Marileidy Paulino claimed gold in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:10.57, shattering the previous mark of 3:14.81.

The sprinter who made history

On the same night, Liranyi Alonso flew in the women’s 100 meters with a time of 11.10 seconds, beating the historic record of 11.14 set in 1998 by Bahamian Chandra Sturrup. A time placing her among the fastest sprinters the region has ever seen.

A night to remember

Both results confirmed the potential of the new generation of Dominican athletics, combining Marileidy Paulino’s experience with the rise of talents like Liranyi. The mixed relay gold, moreover, crowned the work of a relay that had fine-tuned its exchanges throughout the season.
