Dengue in the DR: 213 confirmed cases in 2026 and the prevention campaign continues

Confirmed dengue cases in the Dominican Republic keep rising: 213 so far in 2026, according to the Ministry of Public Health bulletin through August 7. That is 40 more than the 173 reported in the same period of 2025, with 28 new cases in the last week.

No epidemic alert

The ministry clarifies the figures are far from triggering an alert: the trend remains below endemic corridors, with only one death reported this year. Cases are concentrated among young people aged 10 to 19, predominantly male.

The campaign in motion

The Ministry of Public Health relaunched in July the “Ganémosle al Dengue 2026: Elimina, limpia, tapa” campaign, which accumulates 17,047 fumigations, 318,569 preventive actions and the elimination of 61,295 breeding sites, according to the authorities. Minister Víctor Atallah attributed the “small increase” in cases to the climate change of recent months.

How to protect yourself

Official recommendations: eliminate clean-water breeding sites, cover tanks and apply chlorine in containers where water is stored. Dengue symptoms include fever, intense headache and pain behind the eyes.
