Santo Domingo celebrates its medalists on the streets: 150 medals at the 2026 CAC Games

Thousands of Dominicans took to the streets of the capital to celebrate alongside the athletes who earned a record 150 medals at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026.

A party in the capital

The caravan, led by the Ministry of Sports, traveled along the city’s main avenues and ended with a massive concert at Eugenio María de Hostos park featuring artists such as Toño Rosario, Sergio Vargas and Fernando Villalona.

The medalists, many of them young athletes making their regional debut, shared the route with their coaches and families in a day that turned sporting victory into a citywide celebration.

Games to remember

Santo Domingo 2026 brought together more than 6,000 athletes from 37 countries and delivered a record haul for the host delegation. The 150-medal figure surpasses the country’s historical marks in the regional competition and strengthens the capital’s position as a host of major events.

Why it matters

Beyond the medal table, the Games left behind renewed sports infrastructure and a generation of athletes with international potential. The challenge now is turning that momentum into sustained training programs to keep the level heading into the next Olympic cycles.
