Heads up, workers: the August 16 holiday will not be moved to Monday

Attention, workers: Restoration Day, commemorated on Sunday, August 16, will not be moved to Monday, August 17. Law 139-97 excludes holidays that fall on Saturday or Sunday from the transfer measure.

What the law says

Law No. 139-97 establishes that holidays falling on Saturday or Sunday are enjoyed that same day and do not generate an additional day off. The exception applies to holidays that fall on weekdays: those are moved to the nearest Monday.

The August calendar

August 16 commemorates the Restoration of the Republic, one of the country’s most important patriotic dates. Falling on Sunday, Monday’s workday proceeds normally.

Which holidays do move

Móvil dates under the law include January 6 (Three Kings Day), January 21 (Altagracia), January 26 (Duarte) and November 6 (Constitution), among others, which are transferred when they fall on weekdays.
